I went to hear a band play outside my favorite wine bar, with a couple friends. Then, I accepted a last minute invitation to my first halloween party and the hostess gave me some gear so I was a pirate wench. Had a blast and my teen daughter laughed about the pics I sent her (She went to her first Halloween party Saturday night).

Oh, and bethel could make a compilation coloring book of all their disturbing, horrific images, for children, starting with Lot's wife in wide eyed fright.

I took my teen a couple years ago. It was so boring and not at all how I remembered going as a teen. Completely mundane visit and quite the hassle to change into skirts and shoes in the ladies room.
Now when we visit NYC we just have a ball. No guilt and enjoy all the wonders of the city. JetBlue and VrBo.com or airbnb have been great for deals on the upper west side (my favorite between 66th and 89th).
So many kind, wonderful people of all races ready to help you with any questions. May help open your wife's mind.

I enjoy your posts. Take a break. Set timer limits for online activities if you need to. If I feel I'm getting too absorbed in this forum or Facebook, I step up my volunteer activities or exercise more. Joining a book club has been a huge help, too. Yoga and tea help. :)

An interesting conversation with JW´s today in town....
by Mr Fool in.
i guess the conversation was meanless, they are probably lost cases anyway.... .

You never now...I had so many issues with little things. I often wondered if just one persona had made a valid point or asked me a thinking question, where it would have led. I was 36 before I really had an authentic conversation with an intelligent person that raised valid questions. After a few months of intense online fact checking, I realized JW is manmade. Maybe the young one will have some questions.

Doc,
There are many faithful witnesses on Facebook. The majority of the elders wives in my old hall are on it. Pioneers use it, too. Last year, about 90 percent of my Facebook friends were JW. Now it's the opposite.
There are also many JW Facebook groups. The largest one I've seen, which has ministerial servants and pioneers I personally know "liking" the page is the Jehovah's Witnesses News page, with 69,000 followers.

Did having kids make your decision to leave easier or harder?
by Comatose ini was thinking about a few things confusedandalone said the other day.
i mirrored his thinking identically.
for me it was having kids that made my decision to leave an easier one.. if i had no children, i might still be in and just going through the motions.

My teen helped me reevaluate the religion and now we are both out. Paying for private school has really paid off in an unexpected way :)
The game changer was the day she dressed in a professional, modest pantsuit for the meeting and I couldn't find a sensible reason for her to change. That was the last regular meeting I had her attend. We went to the memorial, in case family asked, and haven't been back to date.

What Would a Country Run by Evangelical Christianity Look Like?
by cofty inon an earlier thread i made the statement that, "an evangelical christian government would look a lot like the taliban".. laika asked me incredulously, "do you really think your friends from your old church would govern like the taliban!?".
i thought it was a really interesting question and might work as a separate thread.. the people i worshipped with were mostly a nice bunch of people, but the thought of them having secular power would make me shudder.. christianity is mostly harmless because it lacks power.
christian politicians are restrained by secular laws and constitutions.

Hard to believe this happened a year ago. Someone commented in the news report I read, about the Candace Conti case...and here I am...fully faded.
This was a case with some awful details and my heart goes out to Whitney's husband and family.

I still haven't been able to bring myself to say "bless you" when coworkers sneeze. Probably more to do with the fact that I'm closer to atheist now than anything else and can't stand supporting any superstition, especially the knocking on wood one.
